Lanyards have a colorful history, from military use to fashion statement. Today's lanyards are a handy way to keep I.D. badges, pens, and other small items conveniently close.

In today's marketplace, branding is a must to get your desired message out. You need every edge you can possibly get. Lanyards, worn by millions worldwide, are a simple way to display your message in a contemporary way. Custom imprinted lanyards can carry your brand or message throughout an organization, while also giving the wearers a convenient way to carry name badges, key cards, USB drives and other important items.

The word lanyard dates back hundreds of years, first used as a term for a rope used to secure something on a ship. But by the late 1800s, the term had come to also mean a piece of cord or fabric used to secure a knife, whistle or other item to one's person.

Today's lanyards are available in a range of colors, materials, and printing styles to fit just about any need. Custom lanyards can be imprinted to showcase a business or cause, display a political affiliation or proclaim a corporate value to employees, volunteers and the public.

Camouflage-patterned lanyards are great for blending in - or standing out. Camo lanyards feature dye sublimated ink infused through the polyester lanyard, making it the least likely to fade.

Common lanyard types include polyester, woven, nylon and tubular. Each type offers unique characteristics best suited for particular applications.

Tubular lanyards, made of a tube-stitched polyester similar to a shoelace, are the most economical type. The clean look of a silk screened design is printed onto the tubular material.

Offering high performance and value at a reasonable cost, polyester is the most popular lanyard material. The desired message or logo is silk screened onto the polyester, offering clear detail and design. Woven lanyards use the same high-quality material, but design and text are woven with thread into the lanyard instead of silk screened onto it. Woven lanyards offer a professional look for a relatively simple message, but cannot legibly reproduce intricate designs.

With the smoothest finish of any custom lanyard type, nylon lanyards offer the clearest printed details for even the most intricate designs. For a vivid, long-lasting presence, the message or logo is silk screened onto the nylon material.
